Military Music goes back many centuries and was first played on flute and drum. Over time things evolved with musicians being formed into a ‘Band of Musik’ usually with a civilian bandmaster who was paid for by the officers of the regiment.
When Jerome started the collection in the early 1960’s he concentrated on British Bands, but when he had a spell in hospital he heard on the radio of a translation agency in Cardiff and this decided him to widen the collection to cover the whole world.
He started to contact the embassies of European countries based in London and was able to extend the collection with Western European Band information.
There are many records in the collection which were send to him by European Bands also we have a letter signed by Prince Rainier of Monaco authorising the release of information to Jerome about their Bands.
Jerome was awarded the title of Special Officer as an Honorary Member of the Royal Police Band of the City of Charleroi, France in 1983.
